Tips for Playing EA's Madden NFL 10

Don't be predictable

Don't try the shotgun formation every 3rd down in Madden 10. Your opponent will quickly recognize any patterns in your gameplay.

Alternatively, try Disguising the Play

Line up as if you plan to run the ball to lure your opponent into a blitz. This could leave your wide receivers open for a big yardage gain.

Keep Going!

In the NFL the move does not end when the receiver catches the ball. So in Madden 10 always keep moving forward as much as you can to gain those valuable extra few yards.

Interceptions happen

No matter how great you think you are at Madden and how often you vary your plays, interceptions will still happen from time to time. The best thing is to be prepared. Interceptions might hurt enough, but when an interception is combined with a 30 yard gain, that sucks even more.

If in trouble, throw the pigskin away or scramble from danger!

As the quarterback, don't wait to be sacked or you'll lose precious yardage. Throw the ball away or scramble out of the pocket to keep the negative yards down.

Fourth Downs

Don't get greedy. Although punting may seem like your just giving the ball back to your opponent, you're actually giving yourself a much better chance overall than if you decide to pass or run in the fourth down. If you're within field-goal range in Madden 10 (40 yards or so) go for it.

Follow Your Blockers

When choosing the running option in Madden 10, stay with your blockers, they'll hopefully keep you out of trouble.

Don't forget, you Have Some Tools

So use them as often as possible in Madden 10. Don't forget about using jinks and turns to shake off the defence and make those extra yards.

Know NFL

Do most teams play a pass on first down or do they run the ball? Do certain teams rely on one player? You need to know NFL and Madden pretty well to avoid being crushed by other Madden 10 players. Practice is key.

Ask Madden?

Yes, if in doubt when playing as defence in Madden 10, ask the big guy what he thinks. Beware though, he's pretty predictable!

Change It Up

Familiarizing yourself with your Madden 10 playbook is a sure way to know off the top of your head what formation and/or play will fit into certain situations.

Prepare for the Variables

In Madden 10 it's up to the attackers to keep you guessing. It's up to you to react to this. Don't forget, you can choose which player to control for in-depth hands on coverage.

Interceptions and Fumbles

Madden 10 matches can be won or lost depending on the fall of the ball. Be prepared to jink and run after you pick off the ball if there's a fumble or interception. Make it difficult for the attack to pull you down. The more yards gained, the better.
