Just two weeks old, and already one variant of Left 4 Dead 2's new "Mutations" system has become a permanent option.

Valve announced that the "Realism Vs." mutation would be become a permanent fixture in L4D2 on their blog after fans voted 68/21 (11 percent had no opinion) to keep the mode available. As the name implies, this mode is basically Vs. mode but with extra 'realistic' features - including non-glowing survivors and items, tougher zombies, lethal witches, etc... No date has been given for the when the mode will be made permanent, but Valve had said that it will likely be in the next few weeks.

Meanwhile, the next mutation for the game was also revealed - Follow the Liter. This mode is based on the standard "Scavenge mode" but now only one gas can will spawn at a time forcing the Survivors to collect them in a specific order.

The mutation system is set to continue with Valve now planning to hold a poll every month for players to pick their favourites.
